- Project Description: Designed to support independent living for older people with care & support needs, this 3 storey Extra Care development situated only a few minutes’ walk from Beverly town centre comprises 40 two-bedroom apartments with associated communal facilities & associated infrastructure. Working with lead designer DLA Architects, Goodson Associates were involved in the initial feasibility stages and then through the detailed design & construction phases working directly for East Riding of Yorkshire Council with contractor Houlton.
Photos provided courtesy of DLA Architects. - Construction Overview: The complex project design issues included a section 185 Yorkshire Water sewer diversion & piled foundation solution along with responding to restrictive drainage discharge allowances for the site. The superstructure is a hybrid arrangement of load-bearing masonry walls & steel framing, supporting pre-cast concrete floors & timber framed roofing, all modelled in Revit as part of a pilot project in the development of BIM to provide a single federated BIM model. The project was recognised with a number of awards including winner of the ‘Best Social or Affordable Housing Development’ at the Local Area Building Control North and East Yorkshire Building Excellence Awards and was a Finalist in the Grand Finals Awards ‘Best Inclusive Building’ category.
